Plaza Espana (Fountain Square)
Plaza
Espana is an authentic Spanish square in the heart of Arroyo de la
Miel, containing some lovely bars and restaurants, including the
supposedly haunted Fountain Bar. On the edge of the square are the ruins
of the original paper mill dating back to the 18th century, which
together with iron ore mining and fishing, was the areas main
industries. Also known as Fountain Square by the Brits, although the
fountain was removed a few years ago to be replaced by a tap!!! A new fountain and wall mural
with water feature have been erected and are now working. Bars and
restaurants in the square include:- Cafe Bar Plaza Espana, Victoria
Pizzeria, Bar Torreon, Absenthia and the Fountain Bar.
Plaza Tribuna
Opened
in April 2009, this new square has been constructed next to the ruins
of the 18th century paper mill and just a few steps from Plaza Espana.
The square contains a fountain as well as a statue of Felix Solesio, who
was the founder of Arroyo de la Miel and also the owner of the six
paper mills that were erected on the site of a farm.
